March 2014 ATCs

So here is another group of ATCs. The background on the front is recycled chocolate bar packaging embossed with an embossing folder. The sentiment is a Quietfire Quotemarks stamp on a Spellbinders die cut label and inked with Distress Ink.  The back is the rest of the sentiment.

This group of ATCs are based on the same design as the Byhandartists winter Rolodex swap. The trees are rubber stamped and printed on transparency then layered over a rose image.

February 2014 ATCs

I'm continuing to add art from earlier this year. Since I have been able to keep up the ATC swap I have made at least some ATCs each month. These are of course from February. This group is rubber stamped and die cut.

This intelligent cat is rubber stamped and layered on a grungy background found online.

ATC Dream Accordion Fold Book

This started as a magnetic telephone book purchased from Ruby Dog's Art House.

For the cover I used precious metals cardstock embossed with Diamonds in the Rough Cuttlebug embossing folder. Title is computer text on white cardstock and the frame is QuickKutz Squeeze die cut. This is mounted on the magnet cover and the back cover is mounted on a burgundy ATC.

I removed the accordion fold address pages and added my own accordion fold pages printed on a long piece of paper. The background is a scan of one of my painted backgrounds and my quote is computer generated text. The butterflies are stamped with Inkadinkado Patterned Bugs clear stamps set. Some of the butterflies are embossed with amethyst embossing powder.

January ATC Swap

The theme for this month's swap on byhandartists Yahoo group is blue and orange or packets. For this first set I used blue and orange with either colour for the first layer and words, then used the other colour for the main layer. I used the Cuttlebug Forever Friends embossing and die set and on the first I used paper flowers and the second has a silk flower.

This set is couragated cardboard run through the Cuttlebug with a Sizzex embossing folder and rubbed with a blue pigment inkpad. The words are a Quietfire Design stamped on orange cardstock.

This last one is my favourite, it uses blue orange and pockets. The bottom layer is blue with a rubberstamped tape measure. The next 2 layers are orange scrapbook patterned paper. The top layer is white cardstock rubberstamped with blue pigment ink and numbers from various stamp sets. The pockets have tags and mini monopaly money. The card is finished with and orange lace ribbon and blue and orange fibres. The blue plastic tag with a number is a tree tag used by tree planters.

Oct. 09 ATC "Pear With Leaf"

Paper napkin applique. The beads on the top right corner are applied with a mixture of Diamond Glaze and basil green gel paint. The whole card including the beads is then covered with a coat of triple thick gloss glaze.

Oct. 09 ATC "The Moment of a Leaf"

These 3 ATCs are cut from a flower image glossy paper and rubber stamped with leaf images, a copper coloured leaf bead and seed beads are added. The words "the moment" are a Quietfire Design rubber stamp. Two of these were sent for the Byhand Artists monthly ATC swap.

Oct. 09 ATC "Trust The Moment"

The theme on the Created Byhand Challenge this week is trust, so this is my entry in the challenge. The background of this card is glossy paper which is part of a flower image, I was stamping a leaf on, but it didn't work, so I covered the leaf with the collage image which was in my collection with double stick backing already on. I used a crackle block stamp and embossed with gold embossing powder. "Trust" is computer generated text and "the moment" is a rubber stamp from Quietfire Design. The image is edged with fired brick Distress Stickles

Oct ATCs

I've made some ATCs today and here are a couple of the ones I've titled "Pumpkin Search". I used a digital scrapbook paper for the background and added the larger footprints from the same digital kit. The pumpkins are mounted on cardstock and the edge rubbed with Vintage Photo distress ink. The number 1 is stamped with Ancient Page coal black. I edged the card with Tea Dye distress ink and then applied Distress Stickles spiced marmalade to the front edge. On the second card I punched holes and added a wire and bead hanger.

Sept ATCs for Grind and Byhandartists Swaps

I've just finished a bunch of bird themed ATCs and when I finish up a few more I'm working on I should have enough to mail to Beth for the Byhandartist swap and for the Swap at the Grind this coming Sunday. The first batch is titled "Sweet tweet" and started with some designer printer paper I found at a dollar store. What luck, there are a row of bird images down one side of one of the papers and the other looks like handmade paper with petals in it. Perfect for this month bird theme. I cut out the bird images and layered them with various papers also using Cuttlebug embossing folders. For the text I used a word stamp from a set of typewriter word stamps and stamped "Sweet" on a separate piece of paper, then I masked out the S and stamped weet and then masked and added the t for "tweet". these were torn, coloured with distressed inks and glued on. The bird images are all mounted with foam tape for some dimention.

The second set is "take wing and fly" and is using my quote stamp from Quietfire Design and the Catslife Press bird in flight on my own digital paper background.

The third set "Birds" uses 2 more of the Catslife Press bird stamps on brown cardstock. The first has "finger print" eggs stamped with pigment ink and outlined with Pitt artist pen. The branch is another stamp coloured with Pitt brush pens. The second of this group is another Catslife Press bird stamp, this time with a birds nest stamp, eggs coloured with a q-tip and pale blue pigment ink and a hand drawn branch drawn and coloured with Pitt pens. I used a distressing tool on the second one and sponged distress inks on the edges of both.

August ATCs For The Monthly Swap

I have been trying some paper-cloth projects out for the last while so I decided to continue with that technique for this months swap. One of the themes was pets so I did a variation on the 52 Quilts Page I did awhile back. For the first set I used a photo of my brother and the first ATC I tried the effect of Royal Coat Decoupage Finish Sepia on a black and white print. I used decoupage finish to glue the photo to a piece of gauze bandage (relax it is new) and then brushed with 3 coats of finish, allowing each to dry before adding the next coat. I rubber stamped "Love my dog" with StazOn Blazing Red ink. The gauze didn't exactly unravel but I distressed it by pulling on the threads with an awl. The centre photo is the original print of the black and white photo applied with matt gell medium again brushing on 3 coats over the top. The last photo is digitally altered to sepia tone and again applied with matt medium. The second set of ATCs is a photo of my sister taken by me with a very simple little box camera I had. I used the same procedure as above with a black and white and sepia decoupage finish, a black and white with matt medium and a digitally altered sepia print with matt medium.

July ATC Dragonfly

July ATC Dragonfly
Originally uploaded by okanagan_spirit
Some ATCs I made just playing with supplies I have on hand. I used shiny cardstock that was pre-cut to ATC size and made a background with FW acrylic ink in Purple lake and olive green and Pearlescent liquid acrylic in birdwing copper. This didn't turn out quite the way I expected, but I carried on and rubber stamped with the dragonfly and Hematite ep along with a light sprinkle of some mixed embossing powders. Then I cut the ATC down to 2 in x 3 in so I could layer it over 2 other pieces of cardstock.

Lavender Tea ATC

I've taken a break from knitting for awhile today and worked on some ATCs. I still have some tea themed paper napkins from doing the pages for the Tea Fat Book, so I did some ATCs. I cut my cardstock to 3.5in x 5in and folded it to 2.5in x 3.5in and cut the top corners to resemble a tea bag shape. I used matt medium to glue a piece of the paper napkin to the front side of the ATC. I used my Moxie font for the Quick Kutz squeeze die cut machine and glued the work "tea" on the front. On the back I rubbed some purple ink over the cardstock then stamped a gauze background stamp with Tea Dye Distressed Ink. I wrote the title with a purple Pilot gel ink pen. I used double stick tape to close the bottom and side to form a pocket.
The front of the little Tea "Bag" tag that goes into the packet was made from a 2in x 2.5in piece of Core Color cardstock, corners cut and stamped with the gauze stamp and Tea Dye Distress Ink the run through the Cuttlebug embossing folder. I used matt medium to glue a paper napkin lavender image on. The back of the tag is white cardstock stamped with the gauze stamp and tea cup stamp.
