Journal Page Tomato 2

Judy, this is for you. I put this new set of journal pages together yesterday. I really like the structure of a cut tomato so this is a photo of a half tomato digitally layered over a scan of painted watercolour paper and a couple of special effects. This is printed on watercolour paper and is ready to be added to a future journal. There is a slight variation on my Flickr, but I like this one the best.

Lovely Lilacs

Well the lilacs sure bloomed early this year, the trouble is the weather isn't the best for sitting out by the tree to enjoy the flowers and scent. On Thur April 22 when I took the photos it was a lovely day, but not pleasant for sitting with the neighbours having a tree service working, between the chainsaws and chipper machine it was very noisy. I am glad I got the photos that day though. On Friday it was cloudy, but nice enough to sit, unfortunately by the time I did some errands, refreshed a bit and was ready to sit outside it was raining again. So here are some of the photos for you to enjoy with me. The last photo is a bit of digital editing I worked on to make an art image and to use as a journal page background.

ATC Thinking In Red

ATC Thinking In Red
Originally uploaded by okanagan_spirit
This is an ATC I made for a special swap with the theme "red" I used a digital collage re-worked from one of the pages in my altered board book for the background of this ATC. I placed a torn strip of double sided tape along the top left side of the card and left the release paper on while I glued 3 colours of micro beads around the main image. Once the micro beads were dry I removed the release paper and added red and multi extra fine glitter.Hard to see, but there is a bit of Fired Brick Distressed Stickles in the transition from glitter to micro beads. The computer generated words are mounted on thick card and attached with double sided tape and the beads are strung and glued with Tacky glue around the main image.

Altered Board Book Butterfly Page

For this page I used one of my own painted backgrounds scanned it and printed my quote. I then rubber stamped the butterflies and flourish stamps. The edges are sanded and rubbed with distress ink.

Altered Board Book Art Page

This spread is digital collage using scrapbook background paper, a photo of me and my altered heads, which I made translucent to five the impression of thoughts. I took a photo of my "Spirit Dreams" canvas and added it with brads. The hand and "Art" stamps are from Quietfire Design.

52 Weeks Quilt Journal Week 8

This page is more of the cloth-paper. The pear is a digitally altered copy of my pear photo and the border is scans of my dragonfly ATC edited to form the border. All these papers were glued to acrylic felt with matt medium and brushed with 2 more coats of matt medium. I outlined stitched the pear with rayon thread, used a decorative stitch around the pear block. The border is random stitched with black thread and the outer edge is zig-zag stitched with black thread.

July ATC Swap at The Grind

Digital image background and rubber stamps from Quietfire Design. I rotated and cropped the digital images I was using to practise layers in Photoshop Elements. I tried out different embossing powders and added bling embellishments.

Digital Photos

I am still very much stumbling around with Photo Shop Elements but I took time to play with layers over the last couple of days. I started with this photo and added a scan of one of my encaustic wax backgrounds and came up with this.

Then I tried this photo and used scans of painted backgrounds to create these photos.

Little Tree Fairy ATC

Another Byhand Artists friend, Mary-Beth posted some photos of flowering trees on her blog and invited us to download them for use in our own projects. I did some digital editing with one tree photo and inserted an image of a little girl which was a freebie from another site. The first has a faded edge, the second a soft edge and the last is left straight. I added on some little glitter stickers, these look purple in the scan, but they are pink.
